VETERINARY PHARMACOLOGY AND TOXICOLOGY

The Department of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology is offering course for the undergraduate (III year B.V.Sc.&A.H) students as per MSVE - 2016 regulations prescribed by Veterinary Council of India (VCI).

Postgraduate:
The Department is also offering postgraduate programme from the AY: 2015-16. The Department is well equipped and facility to carry out research in the area of Pharmacodynamics, Pharmacokinetics, Neuropharmacology and Toxicology are available. All the animal experiments are conducted as per the CPCSEA guidelines and after approval from the Institutional animal Ethics Committee approval. 

 Research:
Apart from teaching, the faculty is engaged in research primarily in the area of Pharmacokinetics of Veterinary drug formulation(s), Neuropharmacology, Immunotoxicology, Residue toxicology of Xenobiotics in Foods of Animal origin. Further, elucidating pharmacodynamics of potential herbal extracts and phytochemicals and identification and characterization of poisonous plants of regional importance are undertaken by the faculty.
The faculty is engaged in various research works. The department has completed two externally funded research projects by RKVY, Govt. of Karnataka

  • 1. Validation of ethnoveterinary practices in management of common ailments of livestock
  • 2. Induction of lactation in unproductive animals

Extension:
The Department is regularly conducting training programmes in the area of clinical pharmacology & toxicology as well as extending advisory service to veterinarians and farmersĀ  of the state. The Department had also conducted many workshops on laboratory animals and ethical issues previously. Also conducted many health camps and guided farmers about the advanced practices available in livestock activities. Department is being instrumental in creating awareness among the farmers and field veterinarians regarding Plant and Xenobiotic toxicities commonly encountered in the routine veterinary practice and prevention of the same.
